Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya started the course Master of Social Work (MSW) from the session 2001-2002. At present it has an intake of 60 students

Social Work is a professional service that is based on scientific knowledge and skills in human relation. It assists and individual alone or in the group to obtain social and personal satisfaction as well as independence. In India, the area of Social Work has turned out to be important from professional point of view as it has serve effectively almost all the sections of our society. The field of Social Work offers wide range of specialization and consequently bestows expertise to take up challenges in specific fields including Labour Welfare, Medical and Psychiatry, Family Welfare, Child Development, Rural-urban Development, Tribal Welfare, Correctional and Public Health. Keeping the significance of such awareness and far reaching consequences of such form of 2education it was the need to educate the community located in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh and wisely so, this University took the opportunity to set a department in its premises.

The department with its active faculty engages itself in extensive classrooms teaching followed by disseminating the acquired skills in the field. As field work is an integral part of social work education, the department needs proper financial assistance in not only running of this course smoothly but to gain better insight and validation of knowledge. The students of this department have been well placed both in government and non-government organization.

It’s a matter of pride and pleasure to the department that fourteen student selected as DIET Lecturer in Social Work (Government of Uttar Pradesh).

Assignment writings, group discussions, class seminars, case studies, tutorial, field work, field trips, computer classes, personality development, block placement internship, dissertation, study tour are some other attractive features are carried out with the active participation of all the students for grooming the personality. Distinguished experts from across the nation are invited to update and share knowledge with the faculty members and students of the department.

The department frequently organizes seminar/symposium/workshop and debate to update relevant and challenging issues.

Moreover the department has embarked on creating newer milestones with gracious initiative of the honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manoj Dixit by starting the courses of MPH in 2017 and M.Phil. Social Work in 2018, under the department of social work. The three-year Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) course has also been started in the department from session 2020-21.
