Everybody acknowledges the significance of language and literature. The famous German author, scientist and statesman J.W. Goethe said, “The decline of literature indicates the decline of a nation.” A department for the study of these disciplines is an indispensable part of every reputed university campus. Unfortunately this was lacking in Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya even after more than four decades of its existence, though language and literature departments were functioning in its affiliated colleges since long. This anomaly was rectified in 2018 by Hon’ble Prof. Manoj Dixit, who was the Vice Chancellor at that time and had a zeal to upgrade the University.
Thus, English Department was set up in the University campus and became functional in August, 2018, under the supervision of Prof. Pradeep Khare, founder Co-ordinator. Presently M.A. English course is running smoothly. The most of students of the first two batch have passed in first division, while the present (Fourth batch) has more than two dozen enrolled students, which is a testimony to the growing popularity of the department.
The faculty, which includes two Assistant Professors and scholarly lectures from Professors of premier institutes are always on their toes to impart a fine literary taste to the students. We not only hone the academic skills of the students, but also inspire them to participate enthusiastically in the extracurricular activities. In a short span of time, our students have bagged laurels at the University and District level.
This University is fortunate to get the former Vice Chancellor, Hon’ble Professor Ravi Shanker Singh, a renowned Geophysicist with a very positive and pro active approach, who has already initiated the establishment of new departments including many Indian and foreign languages and literatures. English department too is bound to look up and progress. English Language at Graduation level, which have already been introduced from the session 2021-22 in accordance with the vision of New Education Policy-2020.
