Department of Biochemistry
Since inception in 1993, the department has been making sustained efforts to produce students of International standard. Most of the students passing out from this department have been absorbed / engaged in regular services and / or research activities in various reputed institutions like ICGEB, NII, CDRI, IITR, DRDO and JNU. One of our students got faculty position in University of Bern, Switzerland. The department is also engaged in research activities in popular bio-chemical disciplines like Protein-chemistry and Enzymology, Environmental-biochemistry, Clinical-biochemistry. Recognizing its research potential, central agencies like UGC, CSIR, DST, UPCST, UPCAR and AICTE have sanctioned twelve research projects to the department since inception. A few to mention are Rs 83 lakhs by DST in 2004-05, Rs 13 lakhs by U.G.C. in 2004. The department offers M.Sc. programs in Biochemistry and Biotechnology with an annual intake of 25 students in each branch respectively. The department is equipped with some rare instruments like Spectro-polarimeter, Spectro-photometer, Spectro-flourimeter, Micro-centrifuge etc. To activate the research activities in two major fields namely, ‘The various aspects of Environment and Clinical-biochemistry’ and ‘Protein-chemistry and Molecular-enzymology’. The faculty members have published several research articles in reputed National and International Journals. The department organized five national seminars till now and organizes series of special lectures on various topics on regular basis. Prof. R.L. Singh has been awarded ‘IUTOX Senior Fellowship Award’ by International Union of Toxicology at Montreal, Canada during XI International Congress of Toxicology (2007).
